Some would say that vodka is food. Some actually live off it, as sad as that must be. But some live off it in the good way. The people handling Our/Vodka do. And yes, it’s a project spun off of Pernod-Ricard, a large mean business. But the essential thing is that the people from Pernod-Ricard along with the ones of Great Works, a long-time partner, pushed the boundaries for what’s possible. Making a locally distilled vodka in a micro distillery. A global brand, but with local roots.
The initial version was though made in Berlin and is properly named Our/Berlin. And the road to popping the first bottle was not easy. It took 12 months, and started with having to convince the Pernod-Ricard board. They said no the first time, but perseverance pays off. When all was signed, the production of bottles and other creative went into final phase, now the vodka was all that was missing. The Our-team joined forces with local power couple, Jon Sanders and Pauline Hoch, aka Paul Sanders, a local creative agency, who became partners in the project.
Our/Vodka is popping up all over the world. Our/Amsterdam – Our/Detroit – Our/New York etc. All locally made. So yes, it may be the same company that made Absolut Vodka, but the fact they push the boundaries, mess with a distribution and tradition as they have, should be celebrated.
