Imagine eating a sustainable meal made with organic pork while looking at pictures of the pig you’re eating. How does that make you feel? Would you do it? Well, people have done it all ready.
ODP – Our Danish Pig – was a result of two enthusiasts, going by the names of ChinoRocks and Joachim7Inch, bringing together what they loved the most; food, beer, good company, art, photography and the challenge of creating something fun and a bit crazy. They found some good Danish pigs, watched them grow in a good, biodynamic environment. They dug out a location which they made their own through decorating it with pictures of the pigs etc., and invited friends, family and other enthusiasts such as organic pig farmers, designers and a food council, and served them dishes like raw heart tartar. Not you average pork dish. The reminaders were turned into sausages, bacon and hams and sold, under the name ODC – Our Danish Charcuterie.
This all happened in 2013, and renowned Danish beer brand, Mikkeller, provided the beer. The pop up restaurant was followed up with yet another couple of events in 2014, where Rosforth & Rosforth provided the wine.
This year they are back with “The Amazing Pig Out” together with together with Danish restaurant Amass, Mikkeller and the creative Jody Barton from UK – an 8 hour long pig fest in Copenhagen on September 6th, should you be around. This time 1/6 of each ticket income is given to the foundation, Amass Green Kids Program, which works with at-risk children in Copenhagen, teaching them about food, agriculture and cooking.
Cudos to the two guys with the desire to create something fun and a bit crazy.
